Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to investigate the needs of college learners for English presentation classes as a general English education course, and to investigate the effects of the learners anxiety over English presentations, and interest and self-confidence in English presentations. For this purpose, twenty-seven college students were surveyed before and after class. During the classes, the learners practiced writing their own manuscripts, and presenting them in English in front of their members of the small group. In mid-term and final exams, learners gave English presentations in front of the whole class. Descriptive statistics and t-test were implemented using SPSS 23.
The results of the analysis were as follows: First college learners recognize that they are highly demanded for English presentation classes as liberal arts curriculum. Second, the anxiety about the English speaking ability was reduced through the classes. Third, their self-confidence in English presentation was improved.
Therefore, it may be the significance of this study to identify that English presentation class should be regarded as college general education curriculum. |
