Abstract |
The purpose of the study was to develop and validate a liberal arts competence scale for I-university. The scale development was urged by the recognition that the existing core competence scale can not properly represent liberal arts competence. Based on the major frame of liberal arts competence in I-university (namely Phronesis-competence, Anabasis-competence, and Katabasis-competence which represents Character/Intelligence/Practice Education respectively), we newly defined sub-components for each aforementioned competence and validated them through the research of delphi survey. After finalizing eight sub-components, which are Self-recognition, Self-regulation, Self-reflection, Logical and Critical thinking, Creative and Convergent thinking, Expression, Cooperation, Coexistence and Sharing, we made scale items for each sub-components and implemented a survey to 250 I-university students using those items. Through inspections on each item, we could finalize 27 items for liberal arts competence scale. They showed a solid construct validity under confirmatory factor analysis. This work is meaningful in that liberal arts competence scale can be utilized for realizing balanced liberal arts education and improving liberal arts curriculum. |
