Abstract
This study explores the instructional system design model for STEAM education with a focus on design thinking and implications for STEAM education instructional system designers. The elementary and secondary curricula are being developed, in a variety of ways and in various educational programs at the university of STEAM, using the traditional instructional system design model (ADDIE). However, the ADDIE Model comprises systematic instructional design, which has the advantage of systematic guidance, but some theoretical limitations. In order to develop a program for STEAM education, it is necessary to implement instructional system design models that use new approaches to overcome the limitations of the traditional instructional system design model. Focusing on design thinking for STEAM education, we have devised a new instructional system design model. For this model, we devised a three-dimensional instructional system design that applied all eight principles of STEAM education. The principles of necessity, object, and fusion in the ADDIE model; the principles of creative design and problem solving in CPS; and the principles of emotional experience, diversity, and integration are emphasized in design thinking. The three-dimensional instructional system design model of is proposed, which focuses on design thinking for STEAM education. The features of the model are as follows: First, the instructional system design model for STEAM education utilizes design thinking. Second, in harmony with each stage, analytical and intuitive thinking were employed to resolve the issue. Third, problems are resolved three-dimensionally at each stage. Fourth, various techniques are used that can be applied at each stage. Fifth, design thinking is used as an important axis. The ADDIE model and CPS were used as an auxiliary axis.
Key Words: Design Thinking, Instructional System Design, ADDIE, STEAM, CPS
