Intensive Korean Study Course for foreign students in SungKyunKwan University

Abstract
The Liberal arts only for foreign students in University College of SungKyunKwan University, Intensive Study Course, is a new course to solve the academic problem due to the lack of ‘Korean’ ability in particular the foreign students face during their study in Korea. The University College of SungKyunKwan University manages this course focused on ‘academic Korea’ required for the students’ academic achievement and liberal arts. The course is aimed at increasing Korean skill in short time by teaching ‘academic Korean’ for communication in each field and selecting a multiple syllabus for repeated expansion. In addition, liberal arts as well as Korean class are opened to help them increase academic ability suitable for university. It is verified that the students’ Korean ability has been increased during this course, helping them not only in academic field but also in overall university life and major subjects. In terms of objective index such as the student’s fail rate and lecture evaluation, it was verified that ‘Intensive Study Course’ for foreign students enhances their Korean ability and academic ability.
