Abstract |
This study looks into sport leadership decision-making on the basis of leadership decison-making theories. Today, leadership is an important theme in the analysis of sport phenomena. Of leadership theories, the characteristics theory fails to generalize leadership decision-making in that it focuses on personal characteristics alone in coaches or players. The behavioral theory is advanced in that it focuses on personal behaviors, but limited in that it does not take situational variables into consideration. The situational theory explains the causes of leadership decison-making relatively well, but does not completely escape from the limitations of the existing theories. In the future, it will be necessary to approach the problem of leadership from the perspective that players are more important than their coach in role. It is the very transformational leadership. Its key point is that players trust in, respect and identify themselves with their coach. In particular, the transformational leadership requires a multidimensional consideration of situational, leader and player characteristics, prescribed and practical behaviors, socio-cultural environment, etc. |
