Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study what education of philosophy plays a role in a point of view that paradigm changes from industrial society to information-oriented society or to knowledge-based society. To achieve this, first I investigate the change of social paradigm, examine what the change of this idea of university draws substantive changes and reforms in the liberal education of our university which had ancillary meaning of major under a dichotomous composition that is major/liberal arts. And I am looking for ways that philosophical thinking and methodology can be effectively applied for realizing ideal of the liberal education which a new age demands. Young talents as host of amalgamative and creative product knowledge can grow up, future society which is digitalized and etworked demands so that knowledge-based society has arrived, then the liberal education, which has been planed and operated as preparation of major to suit goal of cultivating sectoral experts, should be reorganized. In this sense, we can arrange purpose of liberal education as establishment of self identity, growing social practice capability, reinforcing communication capability, expansion of syntagmatic knowledge through critical and creative thinking and building moral character etc. Likewise, it is a matter of common knowledge that philosophical learning and training is needed for accomplishing creative and syntagmatic cultural citizen. A study, that is philosophy, has to break the mould of department of philosophy or philosophy major, and further more, has to interact other studies in the open manner. In this sense, it is desired for us to put the core of education of philosophy in the 21st century on philosophy of liberal arts. For a way of concrete philosophy of liberal arts, we can suggest problem-solution and debate-oriented as model in education that can utilize usefully in training attitude which independently and responsibly works out their own problems for themselves.
Key Words: education of philosophy, liberal education, philosophy of liberal arts, knowledge-based society, problem-solution, debate-oriented.
