Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to discuss on how effectively college English programs can provide the demander-oriented education to the students. H University has been offering customized English courses since the second semester in 2015 for students majoring in Physics and Art. These courses focus on four parts; providing TOEIC program depending on students’ needs, major-related English learning programs for 2 weeks, customized evaluation, and finally learning specific chapters in the text book which are related to students’ major or easier ones. As the result of the survey conducted at the end of the second semester in 2015 by the department, it was found out that most students were satisfied with this program in light of offering contents related to their interests. Most professors were also pleased with it in that students are likely to participate in the class much more actively with better concentration. However, the counterplan for the opinion of minority in taking TOEIC lectures should be considered. In addition, professors’ overwork to prepare for classes was also mentioned as the problem to be solved. |
