Level Differentiated Education in College English Education - Focused on Hanyang University s Curriculum

Abstract
Fluent English communication ability as one of essential merits for elites for the society and the corporation has been highly evaluated under the Globalization trend. To meet such need, most universities try to improve their curriculum of English Education either in quantitative or qualitative ways. In the present situation when the number of students with high English ability is increased so much in admission that the gap between the advanced level and low level students in English skills is widened in a class. This study gives an overview on the level differentiated education of college English in seven major universities located in Seoul, and focuses on Hanyang University (Seoul campus) s curriculum of differentiated English education and their management while providing its effects and problems. Along with Hanyang University s English level test for freshmen, criteria and methods of the assessment, level assignment and its implementation on class including advanced class operation are discussed, followed by some suggestions for better differentiated English education.
