An analysis of the educational needs to improve the speech competence of college student

Abstract
In this study, based on the recognition of which the speech competence of college students is considered as one of the primary qualification, the educational needs of speech to improve the speech competence of Korean students is examined. As its results, it is proved that the current state of speech competence which the students think by themselves is ‘moderate(3.18 points)’ and the necessary state which they think is ‘necessary(4 points)’. Also, by considering comprehensively the critical functions of the Borich formula and Hershcowitz formula, it is verified that the preferential contents of speech education are ‘interaction with audience’, ‘hosting with drawing the audience s participation , ‘appropriate asking and effective answering’, ‘vivid voice’, ‘precision of pronunciation’, ‘mind control of anxiety for questions’, and creativity . Finally, it is resulted that the educational needs for speech are partly different according to their grades. Based on those results, to improve the speech competence of the college students, the most important core educational contents which should be considered most preferentially in speech curriculum are positively verified.
