The Relationship between Socially Prescribed Perfectionism and Academic Helplessness in College Students - The Moderating Effect of Resilience

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to The purpose of this study is to verify that resilience moderates the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and academic helplessness in college students. To this end, the online survey of 236 college students was conducted. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 and PROCESS macro 3.1. The results of this study were as follows: First, socially prescribed perfectionism showed a positive correlation with academic helplessness and negative correlation with resilience(control, positive and sociability). Second, socially prescribed perfectionism has a significant positive effect on academic helplessness, while control and sociality have a significant negative effect on academic helplessness. Third, it was shown that moderating effect of resilience was statistically significant in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and academic helplessness. Finally, based on the results of these studies, support measures were proposed to mitigate the academic helplessness of college students with a high tendency toward socially prescribed perfectionism.
