Exploration on Metacognition and Career Adaptability in Participants of College Extracurricular Club Activity

Abstract
This research aims to explore metacognition and career adaptability of extracurricular club activity participants’ considering their demographic variables as well as to analyze relationship between factors, and to draw educational implications for the improvement of college extracurricular activity related program. There has been much research on college extracurricular activity and on each of two factors (metacognition & career adaptability). However, to date, little attention has been paid to extracurricular activity participants’ metacognition as well as their career adaptability. This study was conducted with a total of 226 extracurricular activity participants at H University, and their metacognition and career adaptability have been evaluated. Our findings show that firstly, there were significant differences in career adaptability of extracurricular club activity participants. They obtained higher scores than their counterparts. Secondly, there were significant differences in career adaptability according to majors. Third, there were no significant differences in career adaptability according to gender and grade. Fourth, there were significant differences in metacognition according to gender, and females scored significantly higher. Fifth, there were no significant differences in metacognition according to grade and majors. Finally, there was a significant correlation between career adaptability and metacognition as well as their effects on each other. Furthermore, this study suggested that the appropriate application of extracurricular activities would enhance diverse competencies of students.
