A Comparative Study on the Curriculum of General Education across 9 Universities of the World to Improve the System

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the liberal education programs of 9 universities in the world, United states, China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea and to derive the lessons and implications in order for Korean universities to improve their liberal education. The results of this study are conducted on the basis of literature survey and analyzed a wide range of books and university internet homepages on liberal education. This study finds that liberal education needs to emphasize well-educated personality as well as intelligent aspect. It also suggests some ideal conditions of the school liberal education, which include ratio of faculties to students and certain organization to control liberal education and special program to develop students’ basis competence from diverse programs.
