Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is to develop authentic EXALL (Experiential Awareness Language Learning) contents that realizes experiential awareness of real situations for effective foreign language learning through a convergence-based study of IT and language learning. The traditional language learning is mostly based on virtual experience and there is a limit to acquiring the language in real-world situation. To this end, we propose a way to collect learners’ authentic data by utilizing smart device such as smart phones, smart pads or smart watches, and to present the big data or information as experiential awareness contents through context sensing technology. In other words, English sentences reflecting the real-life situations can be presented by receiving the authentic data using smart device and recognizing those data via situation recognition technology. In addition, we examined the current status of IT technology for more effective convergence research, and constructed a PSE experiential awareness curriculum by introducing the concept of PSE (Person, Situation, Environment) into language learning. Furthermore, the data from SNS such as Facebook and Kakao Talk were used to present authentic English that reflects the real-life situations. Finally, this study discusses the pedagogical and technological effects and use of the EXALL (experiential awareness language learning) contents developed through convergence research. |
