Abstract
The main goal of this study is to introduce and analyze ‘DU Community-based Project Learning,’ one of the character education courses at D university. To achieve practical effects of character education, education programs must include a wide variety of content to ensure learners receive a well-rounded education. Character education must offer learners the opportunity to ponder over what life is a good life and how to live a good life. Character education must also supply an intellectual environment in which students debate and discuss given problems. From this standpoint, this study describes the necessity of community-based PBL and then analyzes whether its field activities promote character development such as problem solving skills, creativity, convergent thought, collaboration, and communal spirit. Through the analysis, it is demonstrated that the course allows students to experience the dynamics and details of the real world, understand a wide range of phenomena and problems in the local community, and improve their problem solving skills.
Key Words: 지역사회기반 PBL, character education, community-based PBL, field activity, problem solving skill, creativity, convergent thought
