Abstract
This research analyzed problems a liberal education provided in Korea has when we are aiming for a multi-cultural era of internationalization in this twenty first century. Based on the findings, this paper studied literature education as a liberal education focusing on the class offered in Duksung Women s University. Liberal education offered in Korea currently needs to be reorganized in consideration of a multi-cultural era of internationalization. As an example, this research analyzed one of classes Duksung Women s University offers in liberal educational curriculum. Modern study in Korea has been very international from the beginning. It has accepted the Western studies that claim to be modern sciences in overall without accepting its own national studies. University curriculums in Korea have been ‘international’ - oriented from the beginning. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the problems by studying the modern high education history and establish an appropriate goal for the university education in this multi-cultural era of internationalization. Though an objective of literature education is to contribute to the modern ideology of society in this multi-cultural era of internationalization, it has other objectives that have priority over. Ultimately, they are self-examination on human beings, sympathy for the society, and creative activities to create better future. Issues such as how human beings should behave to survive, to have consideration for others and to pursue a desirable ideal need to be addressed. Literary works as a text for such humanities value will give power to advance in the new era providing emotional, imagination way of thinking. The power needs to spreaded throughout universities where visions for new culture and history are created based on coexistence and co-prosperity.
