Effectiveness of general education class administered with the invited intra-university success leaders for cultivating student competence - The impact of ‘Special Lectures in Leadership’ on self-efficacy and career aspiration of the university students

Abstract
In this research, we intend to offer freshly distinctive insight for the general education of the university. In this respect, this research provides the criticality of role model which should be captured during the university days. In addition, empirical evidence is reported for the contributional effect of ‘Special Lecture in Leadership’. Specifically, we verify the positive effect of the lecture to self-efficacy and career aspiration for the students. This study is conducted with the general education classes of ‘Special Lectures in Leadership’ held in S Women’s University from the year 2010 up-to 2014. Total 766 questionnaire data are gathered from the students who attended the leadership course offered eight times during this period. The empirical test result reveals more than expected positive effect on offering ‘Special Lectures in Leadership’ for the five consecutive years. Firstly, average students satisfaction score is calculated as 4.29 for overall lecture evaluation item, and 4.19 for lecture environment evaluation item. These scores strongly support the lecture offering faithfully comply with student’s need, and successfully fulfills student’s leadership education requirements. Secondly, the empirical test result shows positive impact of the lecture on enhancing self-efficacy of the students. For every semester leadership courses during the five years, most students answered that the lecture helps encouraging self-conviction and self-assurance of one’s own capability. Thirdly, the test result verifies the positive effect of attending the leadership course on enhancement of career aspiration level of the student. In sum, this study confirms that ‘Special Lecture in Leadership’, in which the agenda mostly includes the cases of successful leaders via online and offline, contributes on reinforcing university student’s positive self-image and eager passion for the future challenges.
