Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to reexamine the meaning of lifelong learning, college lifelong education system and then to seek possibilities of establishing adult college for adult learners and opening adult degree program. The university as community lifelong learning center needs to be more active in public service, continuing education and compensatory education. But the university lifelong learning institutes are usually suffering from lack of various programs. Moreover, they are operating commercial adult learning programs in oder to overcome their financial deficits. The new system of the lifelong learning centered university driven by the government also confronted some problems in that it is not sustainable and focused on enhancing the percentage of employment. This kind of adult program can’t meet the educational goal such as harmony between professional and liberal education. Beyond limits of the present university lifelong education I suggested a new college for adult learners in the university. In order to realize the ideal the university needs to open the whole system of higher education institutions and to secure specialized ‘adult degree program’. The bridge between school to work or between work to school can be constructed only through the implementation of curriculum and educational support system which meet the needs and the real cycle of adult leaners. Avoiding the narrow path of vocational education humanities for adults should be established as a main program for the adult college. |
