Abstract
Like other teaching writing, teaching how to write a letter of self-introduction also requires techniques and strategies. In particular, since major materials for writing a letter of self-introduction are one’s own stories, it is significant that a learner is the one who should independently prepare for, plan and write the letter. At this point, an instructor helps a learner self-motivated and draw it up by themselves. This study purports to propose a teaching plan which should be taught by an instructor, to help a learner acquire a textbook on a letter of self-introduction for job-searching naturally. The teaching method for a letter of self-introduction proposed in this study is an actual model carried out in a lecture of ‘Writing and Speaking’ at Catholic University of Daegu, and it is conducted based on each step by considering all integrated education between writing and speaking, limited time and a great number of students taking the lecture. It can be briefly summarized as follows. In the first step, three-minute speech related self-examination writing teaching is conducted. This step progresses with one’s true self-finding trip, a plan for three-minute speech, three-minute speech performing, and self-examination writing in order. The reason why this step starts with three-minute speech is to make a learner present their letter of self-introduction logically and use it in their self-examination writing. The second step is teaching how to write a letter of self-introduction for job-searching. A learner completes the letter of self-introduction appropriate for the application form of the company he or she would like to apply to by organizing and selecting the stories described in the first step. Third step is the process that learners read their classmate’s letters and conduct mutual evaluation. During the peer feedback, learners come to understand the fact that even though the letter of self-introduction is subjective, it should consider readers and be organized to meet their expectations.
