A Study on the Development and Effect of Convergence Liberal Education Curricula

Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study the development and effect of convergence liberal education curricula which aims for a goal of collapsing the walls between disciplines and creating the new knowledge in the integrative perspective in order to nurture the creative talents who have an ability to solve problems. As an example of the development of the convergence liberal education curricula to approach the goal above, the goal, outline and operation method of four curricula in convergence realm of Mokwon University were introduced and its effect was analyzed in this thesis. The three curricula are as follows, “Arcades Project” which is conducted by the consilent approach of arts, humanities, society, and natural science based on philosophy, Humanities Concert”whose goal is to be the humanities where the boundary of both inside and out of campus is collapsed and which is communicated among people, and the one which is impressive and hopeful and which contributes to the local society, “Renaissance Special Lecture” where speaking, reading and writing are connected, focused on the special lectures by the celebrities in the areas of literature, science, arts, society, and philosophy. For the analysis of the effect of those curricula, questionnaire survey was conducted each lecture, at the beginning and end of the lecture, and a part of the subjective evaluation of lecture, which was progressed after final exams, was referred to. In addition, by analyzing the reports and the statements of impression submitted by students, the qualitative change of students was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was found out that the goal of convergence education was attained in that there were some positive effects, such as that the students could participate in these curricula more positively compared to other classes, that their prospect in thought became more broadened than before the lecture, that they became interested in reading, that they came to have desire for exploration, and that they became interested in others and local communities.
