A Curriculum Model for General Education Aligned with Major

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to establish a basis for the aligned and integrated general education with majors, providing a curriculum which consists of courses in general education program parallel to disciplinary subjects semester by semester. First of all, we reviewed the previous literatures and cases regarding this theme. Next, it was continued to describe other things such as issues relating to setting goals of general education, the specific clarification of the courses proposed in the curriculum model, assessment method of the intended learning outcomes. Lastly, the modes of aligning general education with disciplinary education was illustrated based on the connecting goals and subjects of both sides. The results of this study can have implications in offering a foundation for the curriculum reform reflected on the global trends which emphasize the key competences and student learning outcomes. The model proposed in this article can be transformed according to the university mission and education aims or the characteristics of the disciplinary areas respectively.
