The Direction of Art Education as General Education - Focusing on Musical Imagination

Abstract
The purpose of this article is seeking the possibility of what music education can contribute for fostering creativity of students, introducing the educational program focusing on musical imagination. Designing the curriculum of music education contributing on this is not the problem of the procedure of knowledge construction of learners but that of the way how to construct knowledge for the best learning performance expected. Since, it is not sufficient to receive knowledge through learning process; rather the cognitive ability is needed to construct the worthful knowledge for the learners with the power of imagination. For this, I argue that the education of musical imagination is required for the creative music education, surveying the theoretical foundation of musicology and philosophy. The goal of music education focusing on musical imagination is making the students as creative agency who independently think and decide the problems they meet in their diverse learning circumstances.
