Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to develop a teaching & learning model of writing, reading, and speaking optimal for ubiquitous environments after reviewing the education goals and contents of the three skills in the general education curriculum at university.
Writing, reading, and speaking as communication skills should be learned in multidisciplinary or media literacy teaching. Especially, development on text comprehension ability and creative reproductive ability needs to be focused.
This perspective of this study defines the goal of communication education in ubiquitous environments as reproduction of valuable information through cooperation of communicators themselves. The sub-abilities to be developed through communication education should involve three competences: ability to persuade and draw agreement ; media literacy; ability for critical and creative reproductive thinking.
For a teaching & learning model of writing, reading, and speaking to attain such competences, we developed “AUREUM” model. In the light of several parameters in developing teaching & learning models, the “AUREUM” model was composed of the following elements: “Active Student” for the student element, “Ubiquitous Learning Environment” for the learning environment element, “Reflective Learning,” “Experience Learning” and “Utilizing Media Learning” for the element of teaching & learning methods and strategies, and lastly “Multi Literacy Education” for the learning substance element.
We expect that the “AUREUM” model will be served as a foothold for many universities to develop a variety of contents and methods of writing, reading, and speaking education making the most of their own learning environments and students’ features. |
