Though many studies have highlighted on the effect of Reading aloud, there were few studies on the ‘aloud.’ In order to look into some different field of these studies, this research explored the aloud, in terms of checking whether the degree of the EFL learners utterance and its change affects the reading comprehension. For the purpose of the study, there were two research questions. One is whether the pitch of utterance affects the reading comprehension. The other is whether the degree of utterance change affects the reading comprehension.
A total of 78 university students participated in the goal of this study. All subjects were asked to record reading aloud assignments once a week during the 3 weeks. The utterance was based on the average of the recording decibel which is measured by the decibel-measurement app. To examine all the data, independent t-test and correlation analysis were employed and SPSS 23.0 was used to analyze them.
As a result, all participants who have submitted 3 recording assignments outperformed the group of students who did not submit their assignment properly in the midterm test as a reading comprehension test. There was no significant difference between the high utterance of recording group and the low utterance of recording group. All the data of the subjects were divided into two groups which are based on the degree of utterance change. There was no statistically significant difference between those two groups as well.
