Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to present the implications and directions of the convergent curriculum in university and to examine the opinions of students about the flexibility of academic system. To achieve that, this study investigated the current state of the convergent curriculum in universities, and selected one of them to conduct a survey on the operation of interdisciplinary major. The survey subjects were 253 students in the course and 263 students not in the course of interdisciplinary major at A university in Seoul, and the survey was conducted by telephone interview method.
The results of the study are as follows. First, an administrative organization which is exclusively responsible for administrative services and educational services needs to be established to meet the demand expansion of the interdisciplinary major. Second, it is necessary to improve the environment in which the interdisciplinary major classes are provided. Third, career education and student counseling should be strengthened to increase the rate of students degree acquisition. Fourth, increase the number of presentations using the lecture hours of participating professors and provide a homepage and a communication platform for those who have participated in the interdisciplinary major. Fifth, periodically investigate the interdisciplinary major and related subjects students want, and manage the total number of interdisciplinary major in university. Sixth, students responses to the introduction of convergent curriculum proposed by the Ministry of Education were very positive. These results should be actively reflected in the reorganization of the academic system and policy development related to the convergent curriculum. |
