Abstract |
This study investigated the patterns of the factors of items that determine the total score in the lecture evaluation of liberal arts theory courses of A. University located in the capital region through a decision tree analysis, a technique for classification in data mining. This study differentiated itself from the preceding studies by conducting a comparative study of the patterns of the factors that determine the total score of the lecture evaluation, dividing groups according to the professor position, class size and the year of the students. The results of this study were as follows: First, excepting for textbooks and materials being the first node determining the total score of the lecture evaluation in the group of senior students, the teaching method was commonly confirmed as the first node in the professor position, class size and the year of the students. Second, the fairness of evaluation and syllabus the second node was commonly analyzed in professor position, class size and sophomores and juniors. Third, mutual interaction and syllabus in freshmen and the fairness of evaluation and mutual interaction in seniors were explored as the second important node respectively. They showed the importance of emotional factors in liberal arts courses and the differences in the factors determining the lecture evaluation according to the year of the students. Concrete strategies developing teaching competency in liberal arts courses by the characteristics of each group were suggested based on the results. |
