Abstract |
This study explored 704 university students’ perception, satisfaction, and learning outcomes of general education in universities. The findings are as follows. First, the perception on the quality of teaching and a variety of methods used by instructors of general education was positive. Second, students’ high-order competencies showed lower than the other competencies. The competence of cooperation with others was high while the perceptions on the learning outcomes of competence of mathematical problem analysis, usage of the perceptions IT resources, globalization, and employment were low. Third, the overall satisfaction on general education was medium. Third, compared with the findings from previous studies, the levels of all the factors in this current study were higher. Based on the findings, the educational implications to improve general education were suggested. First, it is necessary to provide the teaching methods and learning activities for students to do self-directed learning. Second, a variety of evaluation methods and feedbacks on assignments and tasks should be provided. Third, courses for improving competences of high-order problem solving, and usage of IT resources need to be offered. In addition, since the quality of teaching and students’ interaction with instructors highly affected the satisfaction of general education, boosting students’ learning motivation, providing efficient methods for explaining course contents, and supporting adequate and various learning materials should be considered for better quality of general education. |
