A Study on the Current Situation and Improvement of Science in General Education

The purpose of this study is to understand the current state of science in general education domestically and to find a solution to the problems. For the study, we investigated the method and the proportion of science in general education completion through the handbook of 51 universities in Korea. In order to examine the current state of science in general education through analyzing contents after collecting the lecture plans of general education curriculum in the common liberal arts curriculum and to examine the attitudes and responses of the audience, We surveyed the subjects of science subjects in liberal education. Along with these two surveys, an expert group interview was conducted to collect relevant data and analyze them. As a result of the analysis, it was found that lack of objective orientation of science general education in the curriculum operation process, failure to comply with obligatory enrollment in science general education, absence of laboratory practice course and the effort for establishment of science literacy education system, lack of institutional capacity to strengthen the capacity of learning design and teaching profession etc. caused the problems. In order to improve this, it is necessary to supplement the compulsory system of science subject, strengthen the support for the development of general education for science curriculum.
