A Study on Global Citizenship Education for Foreign Student’s Glocal Citizen Competence Development

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to suggest the case of subject development in global citizenship education to develop foreign student’s glocal citizen competence. Although the foreign students who learned in universities in S. Korea have sharply increased, there’s a lack of preparation for it and even curriculum was not systemized yet for them. Therefore, this study aimed to develop the global citizenship education course in oder to develop global competence, glocal mind and citizenship which are necessary for foreign students and share the results as well. The expected effect of global citizenship education for the foreign students could be summarized as follows. First, it will contribute to the cultivation of foreign student’s glocal citizenship so that they could grow up into citizens who think over better life and future as national people and members of international society. Second, it will contribute towards improvement of liberal education that was used to focus on Korean education and pave the way to activate the global citizenship education in universities. Third, it will establish foundation to cultural ecosystem where people can share and band together by connecting myself, yourself, ourselves, universities, regions, countries and the whole world and help regional development and moreover, expand the public interests. Fourth, it will not only improve various programs associated with non-subject education and activate the related research. Fifth, since the module by each topic and teaching methods in global citizenship education which was developed in this study can be applied to other universities if applicable, it could improve and expand liberal education qualitatively by operating common lectures and contribute towards exchange of outcomes between universities.
