Development and Validation of Collegiate Core Competency Assessment: Focused on the Case of A University

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develope and validate core competency assessment for college students that reflected the educational objective of A University. In order to accomplish this goal, 1)prior research analysis for basic data, 2)survey on core competency awareness of professors and students, 3)development of collegiate core competency assessment, 4)modify of items based on pilot test results was implemented. The results of the study are summarized as follows. Based on a comprehensive literature review and the development cases of core competency assessment of other universities, 12 core competencies that matched the talented students of the A university were selected. 7 competencies such as logical critical thinking, creative convergence thinking, self - management, problem solving, communication, global and community consciousness were derived as core competencies. The developed assessment was pre-tested with 128 students and analyzed to verify the reliability and validity of the test empirically. The reliability and validity of the collegiate core competency assessment developed in this study were some what satisfactory.
