Abstract |
In the rapidly changing social trend, critical thinking, creative thinking, communication skills, and comprehensive problem-solving skills are needed instead of accumulating knowledge. is a newly developed interdisciplinary liberal arts subject to this trend of the times. This study is to read Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein in the “Thinking and Expression” lecture, to reflect on humanistic subjects in the work and to express our own thoughts about it.
The goal of this course is threefold. The first is to have the opportunity to read the texts of the rich humanistic reflections that have been handled in individual studies by applying them to Thinking and Expression. Secondly, we want to critically examine the text instead of reading the book uncritically, thereby developing the power of thinking. The third is to embody our reflections through the work of language expression of writing or speaking.
With this purpose, we tried to reflect on some of the topics in the work and summarize our thoughts about them. First, we asked whether the human desire for infinite creation, especially the desire for the creation of human life, is a blessing or a disaster. Second, we read the argument of the creature and Dr. Frankenstein and thought about which position we stand for. And from the standpoint of the monster, we thought about whether the revenge for unjust treatment is legitimate. We also thought about the dilemma between love for a single person and love for the entire human race. Finally, we tried to reflect on the meaning of the work dealing with death, fear, and misery and expressed our thoughts. |
