Abstract |
This paper studies cultural-educational significances of the german classical literature, especially focusing on Goethe s work Hermann und Dorothea mentioned in a very ideal suggestion by Wilhelm von Humboldt who is the founder of the concept of university education in Germany. First of all, in the aspect of the productive-aesthetics the various forms of cultural contents which should be formed by an autonomous and ethical subject are analyzed through the embodied ideal characters that an author created. And at the same time, in the side of the receptive-one such aesthetic effects as the lifting up and purifying of internal natures are perceived through imaginations of readers in the harmonization, unity, or beauty of objects. In doing so, Humboldt s emphasis is on cultivation in the creative literary imagination as well as on educational functions leading to an aesthetic human who has both reason and emotion. For this reason, the concept of the human being proposed by him might be an alternative for the recovery of humanity and morality in this society that is now overflowing with individualism and rationalism along with improvisatory and temporary sensualism. |
