Abstract |
There has been a keen interest about the President Klaus Schwab since he mentioned the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” in the World Economic Forum in 2016. Especially, among the various impacts of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the emergence of artificial intelligence posed an existential threat to humanity. The purpose of this thesis is to discuss postsecondary writing education and suggest the direction of its development at the time of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Kafka on the Shore by Murakami Haruki sets a benchmark for our current situation in the presence of an existential threat. Haruki approaches the problem of human existence through the return and growth process of the life of a 15-year-old boy named Damura Kafka. The boy, who was in absolute solitude, establishes his identity as a living human through “solidarity” with people. What we need now, too, is the establishment of human identity through solidarity.
Postsecondary writing models needed to establish human identity include essays, wills, and letters of self-introduction. These three models include both reflexive writing and communicative writing, and they can be used to heal the wounds caused by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. On the other hand, for students with digital identity, postsecondary writing education should take into account not only content but also methodological aspects. “Sharing” should be the basis of the writing and “convergence of information” should lead to the expansion of the content. By considering various ways of writing education, we can make people and the society healthier. |
