Abstract
We seek to improve the quality of education in the university general education program by establishing formal evaluation system of ‘logicinference skills & problem-solving ability based on critical reading of the classics’. The logic-inference skill test examines students argument analysis and evaluation technique, and the problem-solving test targets to examine how students resolve the confronting problems in the classics they read. The evaluation system that we develop does not aim to the independently accomplished evaluation form; The evaluation will be focused on examining the first-year students ability whether they can continue to think ‘critically’ after they go in for their major study, and will be used to inspire students to keep the attitude in their whole life. As the teachers in the university general education program, we want students being the critical thinkers, not the students who are well trained for the critical thinking tests.
