Abstract
As often mentioned, we are now getting into the so-called “information Society”. According to this shift the “geography” of knowledge society is also changing. It is different from that of the industrial society. The character of educational needs in higher education must be also changed. Education concentrated on instructing established knowledge in any limited specialized area must be replaced with education concentrated on fostering basic capability of confronting any problematic situation. It must be a kind of “convergent” education. Considering the educational needs of this kinds, it’s quite natural that the demand on the general education in/through basic sciences is now getting bigger and stronger. In order to strengthen the general education and to facilitate the ‘convergent’ education on the basis of it, a new academic system is required. In this context the “faculty system” as well as the “university college system” have to function for their original purpose with their substantial “hardware” and “software”.
