Re-conceptualization of Competency for University’s General Education Curriculum - Focusing on the Sen’s Capability Approach and Vallance’s Ways of Knowing

Abstract
The purpose of the thesis is to explore that competency’s re-conceptualization general education curriculum what promptly meet the needs of the times compatible with fundamental reason of its, focusing on theoretical exploration about Sen’s capability approach and Vallance’s ways of knowing. For this purpose, first, it urge the needs of re-conceptualized competency that meet the needs of the times as competitive power compatible with fundamental reason of its for general education curriculum. Second, it argue that existing functional definition of competency can satisfy the needs of the times, but may not serve that live an independent life and develop wide ability to look at life as fundamental reason of general education. Third, it get to know that Sen’s capability approach can to satisfy that build human with occupational knowledge and function compatible with contribute to nurture human being, because implicit extrinsic value and inherent value of education in life as human being. Also, it get to know that Vallance’s ways of knowing can to satisfy that not only include functional knowledge, but also develop wide ability to look at life, and can 대학 교양교육과정을 위한 역량의 재개념화 - 39 consist integrated general education curriculum get out of the segmented curriculum component. The fourth, on the basis of above discussion, it urge that competency for general education curriculum meet compatible extrinsic value with inherent value of education be able define as ‘ various ways of knowing organically integrated in social practice, performed purposes with nurture human being.
