Abstract |
Based on the necessity of recently emerging grammar education to improve English communicative competence, this study aims to suggest an effective teaching-learning model of communicative English grammar in college English class. To accomplish this goal, this study proceeded in the following: First, the researcher designed a four-level grammar teaching-learning model (grammar presentation, extensive practice of sentence pattern, pseudo-communicative activities, and communication activities) using movies that provide context and situation for meaningful communication. Second, using this model, the experiment was conducted for 10 weeks to a total of 52 students (24 females, 28 males) attending a university in Gyeonggi-do. Finally, learners’ interest, participation, and satisfaction for this study were investigated and analyzed through closed and open questionnaires. The findings of the study indicated that the grammar classes using the model developed in this study were interesting among 47 participants(91%) because they used new teaching methods, audiovisual stimuli, and the use of film as a learning material, led 40 participants(77%) to positive participation, and satisfied 50 participants(96%) responding that they were comprehension-oriented classes rather than memorization, and made them learn comfortably and joyfully reducing distance from grammar and feel that grammar was a part of communication and was needed for speech. |
