Abstract |
In high school education of our country two different tracks, those are, liberal arts and natural science, have been offered separately so far. Taking into account this unique situation we developed and have offered a general biology course titled ‘Biology and living’ since 1st semester of 2012. This course was developed based upon five general biology courses which had been well established at Yonsei University during last over 20 years. Although this course is for non-biology major students, the course was designed to include most of important concepts and principles at least introductory level. In order to meet the end of this course we have tried to provide students introductions of various research approaches and copious explanations on theories as in other general biology courses. Further, we have tried to make students understand easily concepts and principles of biology with various comparisons and examples on real life. In feedbacks, students have shown extremely positive reviews on class contents, understanding degree of biological concepts, and comprehensive explanations. Students also showed positive reviews on problem-solving hours. However, negative comments were also shown on this class prompting us to prepare both short- and long-term constructive measures. |
