The Relationship between Musical interest, Empathy, Creative Personality

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among musical interest, empathy and creative personality of college students. Musical interest questionnaire, empathy test and KEDI creative personality test were applied to 76 students of university located in Chung-nam. The musical interest questionnaire was composed of interest and emotion about music, and the empathy test was composed of cognitive empathy and emotional empathy, and KEDI creative personality test was composed of curiosity, task obsession, esthetics, risk taking, openness of thinking and independence of judgment. Analysis of data was conducted by Pearson’s correlations and MANOVA. The results are as follows: first, there are positive correlations among musical interest, empathy and creative personality. Especially, positive correlations were found within cognitive empathy, emotional empathy, curiosity, esthetics, risk taking and musical interest. Second, subjects in higher musical interest group showed higher cognitive empathy test scores. Third, subjects in higher musical interest group showed higher curiosity, esthetics, and risk taking test scores.
