Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to investigate industrial workers’ perceptions of overall general education and the situation and environment of general education at universities and to analyze their perceptions of the educational needs regarding the core competencies in general education at universities. In order to accomplish this, a survey was conducted on 136 industrial workers to analyze the different perceptions of socio-demographic characteristics of overall general education and the states and conditions of general education at universities. For this, study data was collected through the independent sample of t-tests and the one-way analysis of variance. In addition, the Borich Needs Assessment Model was used to identify the educational needs of industrial workers in the core competencies of general education at universities. According to the results, the perception scores varied according to the different backgrounds of the industrial workers, however the results showed no statistically significant difference. Moreover, the results of the educational needs analysis and the ranks of the required core competencies were as follows: 1. Foreign language ability in global core competence. 2. Cultivation of personality and self exploration and development in humanistic core competence. 3. Debating and mediating abilities in communication and cooperation core competence. 4. Creative idea generating abilities in creative convergence core competence. 5. Communication skills in communication core competence. 6. Listening and understanding abilities. |
