Abstract |
The purpose of this study suggest effective ways of improving the subject management council by analyzing the operational cases, effects, and problems of the subject management council which was operated to improve the quality of liberal arts courses at Chonnam National University(CNU). This study analyzed the case of subject management council through the annual report of the institute of liberal education at CNU. Also, this study conducted focus group interviews and one-on-one in-depth interviews with the professors who taught liberal arts, and analyzed contents of interviews through the Nvivo 10 program. The result of this study, we was confirmed that CNU operates the subject management council in the form of subject management committee, meeting with the area of liberal arts, and the workshop around core liberal arts since 2010. Although faculty members perceived that these were helpful to share the know-how on the management of subject, they pointed out the problems such as troublesome of the administrative procedure and the similarity and repetition of the contents of discussion. We suggested the ways of improving the subject management council that suggesting the contents of discussion by the agency, establishing a support system to alleviate the administrative burden, and surveying the recognition of professors. This study will be helpful to faculty and staff who are concerned with the managing quality of liberal arts courses through suggesting specific the operational cases, effects, problems, and improvement ways of the subject management council |
