Operation and Efficient Management Plan pursuant to Expanded Reorganization of Reading and Discussion Program - Focusing on the case of Dongguk University, Gyeongju Campus

Abstract
Today, universities operate various reading programs in order to encourage reading of students, to improve their logical thinking, and to strengthen communication ability. Such phenomenon means that it is necessary for university students to form voluntary reading culture and to have adequate reading education. Gyeongju Campus of Dongguk University fostered many competent mentors in the campus from the 2nd semester 2015 and operated a program to spread reading-discussion-writing activities as voluntary campus culture. This thesis introduces operation summary and characteristics of reading and discussion program managed by Dongguk University, Gyeongju Campus from the 2nd semester 2015, instruction plan form, feedback system questionnaire items, and others. “Dongguk Reading a Book“ which was newly-organized after expanding previous Reading Mentoring since 2011 became a representative extracurricular program providing a liberal education in collaboration with the Writing Education Center and the library. Following are operational characteristics of reading and discussion program of Dongguk University. First, it was operated in collaboration with the library and the Writing Education Center. Second, it raised voluntary participating level and prepared many reading models through various application methods. Third, it introduced lending system of selected books and helped participating students improve interest and satisfaction. Satisfaction degree of lending system assessed by actually participating students was high enough as much as 4.7 out of 5 points. Fourth, the professor in charge performed weekly feedback through a guidance plan. It was necessary to describe program summary, guidance objective, guidance form, guidance method, guidance contents (subject, target, content), activity form, and excellent participants in the guidance plan. Upon completion of the program, it conducts questionnaire survey of program satisfaction to investigate any problems and to check any improvements for reference to operation. According to the questionnaire survey made in the 1st semester of 2016, students satisfaction was high in general. It is believed that recognition of students on the program is affirmative. It is required to analyze reaction and needs of students as consumers from now on and then, to provide them with systematic reading and discussion programs. There are some pending improvements related to operation but this thesis aimed to explore operational procedures and educational meaning of the reading and discussion program so that it may give a help for professors, working group, and students to understand reading and discussion program.
