| Abstract |
|
It is not easy to identify the readers or audience, although their characteristics should be reflected on generating the content and the organization of writing. Thus, audience are regarded as the function of readers in discourse community and context of communication, though the readers are counterpart of the writer. According to a case study for the practices of communication of an engineering center of an engineering company and some criteria of audience classification with the aid of understanding of discourse community as well as context of communication, the readers of engineering writing are members of knowledge producing team that depends on teamwork emphasizing documentation. The team is a discourse community operated by organizational hierarchy and for economic profit. Then Engineering students should be taught so that they be aware of the function of readers with respect to discourse community and context of communication in generating the content and the organization of writing. |
