Education on the academic purpose text organization by discourse marker

This study aimed to discuss on the teaching methods for the foreign university students who entered the universities regarding their writing of academic purposes. The purpose of the education on the writing of academic purposes in the foreign students is to prepare the communication tool by writing text. Therefore, we emphasized in this article that the knowledge on the text organization as well as the process to learn about the text organization skill should be included in writing courses as the learning practices. Moreover, we added that writing knowledge was not only for contents in the academic purpose text, but also for organization of academic purpose text, hence, writing discourse other than writing paragraph should be a category of education courses including writing knowledge. On the other hand, text organization skills of academic purpose discussed in this article include the meaning as well as logical structure required for the organization of paragraphs other than sentences. Therefore, the process to use discourse marker was demonstrated to be effective to develop the organizing skill of academic purpose text as the contents of education. The text structures provided for discussion were based on explanatory text and logical text which were the representatives of the academic purpose text. Since the types of both text structures were shown to be relatively simple and typical, we suggested discourse marker, which are frequently used in the types of logical text structure, to find out the text organization knowledge using this as the education method of writing knowledge. By this discourse marker education of text structure, we aimed to show the writing students to prepare the academic purpose text effectively and to perform the writing practices which were appropriate to the type and purpose of the text.
