Abstract |
These days, it gets more and more attention that various attempts should be made to cultivate students with humanity, creativity, and common sense in the field of higher education. There seems to be a consensus about the reason: students have exclusively devoted themselves to study for the college entrance exam during the period while they should have internalized their own experiences. Therefore, in order to change their attitudes fundamentally, a new educational environment such as a living-learning community has been proposed and a residential college (RC) is considered as one of such environments.
Dongguk University has launched the RC in 2014 as an attempt to renew the undergraduate education. We have tried to organize various in-class and out-of-class educational programs that students eagerly participated through experiential education activities in the living-learning community. We also have tried to provide the localized educational programs to promote students’ awareness of the Gyeongju history as a millennium-year-old city, which have expanded and improved the infrastructure of the general education for the public in the city.
This paper concludes with the retrospect and the prospect of what we have done: the trials and errors to solve the problems met while running the RC and the tentative plans for the future. |
