A study on a case of “Making use of University Museum in Writing” - A a part of writing class in Duksung Woman’s University

대학박물관을 활용한 대학교양 글쓰기 과목의 수업사례 연구
This research is the case study for the undergraduate writing class, making use of museum in writing class. The undergraduate writing class is one of liberal art requirements in many universities, but lots of students still feel difficulty in writing. This research starts with such needs; we suggest an education method which enables us to teach whole writing process by providing the case, “Making use of University Museum in Writing”, a part of writing class in Duksung Woman’s University. “Making use of University Museum in Writing” consists of 4 classes. The first class introduced theories of “narration” and “description” and taught “travel essay.” The second class brought students to the university museum in Duksung Woman’s University. Students got a guide tour, had a discussion for theme selection and wrought the first outline. The third class is for developing the frist outline to wring a draft. Students got the corrected draft and polished it in the final class. Students must narrate and describe their plan, experience and impression in “Duksung Woman s University Museum Travelogue.” Their writing process consisted of several steps, selecting theme, making outline, organizing compositions, writing draft and developing draft. Students spent a large portion of their essay for describing what they saw but made quite a small portion for their impressions. After such process, we did a survey to check their interest in the museum and to ask their feeling in each steps, selecting theme, making outline, organizing compositions, writing draft and developing draft. As a result, we know that students got more interested in the museum, feel ease in narration and description but feel difficulty in expressing impression. Also, lots of students answer that writing draft is not hard and very helpful in developing compositions as planned. “Making use of University Museum in Writing” enables students to learn wring stp by step. Between steps, students’ works are corrected by the lecturer so that hey can get correction on every step. Also, they learn not only theoretical study of writing but also experimental study. “Making use of University Museum in University Museum” needs cooperation with the university museum and understanding exhibits of lecturers and ability of searching apllying data. Also, we suggest further writing like “museum talk for students” or “imaging as a person in the ear of the exhibit” to help students who got difficulty in expression their impression.
