A Study on Debating Class Model as a Deepening Process of Communication - Focusing on College Students

Abstract
The liberal arts aim for universal knowledge and human values. Therefore liberal arts become a cornerstone of knowledge-based society in educating ability of classification and integration, value judgement and capability of communication. In particular, most junior college emphasizing on the importance of the job have ignored the necessity of liberal arts. College students have been trying to acquire only technology for the job without educating liberal arts developing ability to think and exploring self. It is a result of ignoring values of liberal arts. In this situation, this study on debating class model for the college students will be worth. The classroom of debating was connected with reading, writing, hearing and speaking. Therefore, the college students’ ability of communication has improved by debating. Students participating in the debate understood that a place for debate is not only speaking their claims but also hearing a person’s opinion. Also they realize that the debate is communication of high standard raising a point by presenting the reasons. The classroom of debating was a great opportunity for college students. Because of debating, they realized that communication is important and experienced improving ability to think.
