A predominant feature currently in academic writing education is that it emphasizes its ground on critical thinking. Thus, the relevant question is raised. why should critical thinking be a basis for academic writing? The reason for this is that several elements of critical thinking propensity get reinforced in academic writing as a form of ‘academic communication’: abstract thinking, reflective thinking, analytic thinking, and logical thinking, which consist in the whole ‘critical thinking.’ In this regard, academic writing is a kind of process of critical thinking, simultaneously a consequence from it.
The correlation between academic writing and critical thinking leads us to establish several proper models for a method of writing education. It is widely acceptable that a consideration on ‘Critical Reading and Writing(CRW)’ based on critical thinking is a plausible way to develop writing ability. I examine three alternative CRW models as strong candidates and then compare and contrast them in terms of ‘co-cultivation of critical thinking and writing ability’ and ‘an efficient education method.’ Furthermore, I draw my own framework in reference to them so as to be a desirable academic writing methodology. |
