The development and application of research paper writing program based on ‘Science writing heuristic’

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to attempt to improve in scientific thinking ability, critical thinking ability, logical thinking ability and writing ability of college freshman for science major course through research paper writing program based on Science writing heuristic. In order to accomplish this research purpose, the following research questions are constructed established writing research paper program can’t improve writing ability, scientific or logical thinking ability of students in science and engineering and what are improving methods. This study gave attention to Science Writing Heuristic(SWH) that students are able to play a leading role in research. Data source were from 39 college freshmen in science and engineering participated in research paper writing program based on Science writing heuristic for 10 weeks. Questionnaires and analysis were conducted from participants’ responses, their research papers and observation of discussion with peer/teacher. The findings of data analysis showed that 1) actual improvement of research paper writing ability by apply research paper writing program based on Science writing heuristic, 2) improvement scientific, logical and critical thinking ability of presentation and feedback as peer/teacher reviews and 3) possibility that group research paper writing can contribute to writing ability for studying science major course.
