The Analyses of the Concepts, Contents, Satisfaction and Future Needs for College General Education

Abstract
This study investigated the concepts, contents, satisfaction and future curriculum needs for instructors, students, and workers for college general education. Using an online survey, this study recruited 441 subjects (125 instructors, 135 students, 181 workers) from the various universities and companies. We conducted analysis of variance (ANOVA) for multiple comparisons and Important-Performance Analysis (IPA) for measuring and comparing the importance, satisfaction, and future needs of college general education. The analyses show that the overall college general education satisfaction is low. With regards to the concepts and contents of college general education, the results indicated that the formation of the whole and autonomous human beings and general education that seeks the truth in knowledge are emphasized in college general education. In addition, the results show that the area of humanities, social science, and natural science should be taken more into account when preparing and developing future curriculum of general education in colleges. Further more, IPA shows that there are increasing needs for the academic subjects like classics emphasized life of human beings and intellectual heritage, the state-of-the-art and critical issues of the contemporary world, and courses for every students to challenge them at every level.
