A Didactical Reflection on Character Education in University

Abstract
This article aims to examine the direction of character education in university. Based on didactics the article discusses the aims, contents, methods and evaluation of character education and suggests some practical strategies. After providing a brief review of the aims of character education including self-regulation, responsibility, participation and solidarity in a rapidly changing society, the author described five dimensions of character education in university. These include individually physical education, mind education and wisdom education as well as civil education from a local and global perspective. It is significant to note that college students should engage with character education by meeting physical, mental and spiritual needs in order to enhance their global citizenship. Finally, after a discussion about the evaluation of character education in university this article suggests that this vision of education can be practiced in a integrated framework for general education, professional education and non-curricular activities in the realm of university education.
